My name is Arnoud van Houwelingen. I created this site to showcase and share my photographic work.
Why Photography?
I always had a fascination for photography growing up. My real passion came when i read the book “Weegee’s New York”. Weegee was one of the pioneers of street photography. This kind of photography really grabs me emotionally because it often depicts human emotions and drama. The city environment is also very appealling to me. Most of my photos are taken in my hometown Amsterdam and 9 out of 10 times people are the subject in my work. When i went to university i bought the Rolleicord as my first film camera. The reason why i purchased this twin lens camera was basically because it looked really cool and nostalgic and more importantly it was not that expensive. The quality of the photos with this camera are excellent due to the superb schneider xenar lens. In 2006 i bought the Olympus E-500 as my first digital camera. This camera is a lot more practical and easier to use than my old rusty Rolleicord. With Adobe Photoshop CS2 as my “digital” darkroom i now have full creative control over my photos.
